We recently received a pretty good rain that resulted in som high flood waters along my route to work. During my drive I got into water that flowed at least to the top of my tires. Even taking it slow, I had water push up over my hood once or twice.



Afterwards I experienced a couple temporary problems from various things getting wet that are easily explained. (Clutch shudder, brake squeals, etc... )



Now after 5 or 6 days, I am hearing a high frequency vibration associated with engine RPM that shows up mainly when the engine is warm and the RPM is winding down.



It's hard to explain, but here goes..... When I am slowing to turn or stop, I usually down shift and I am getting this LOUD vibration as the RPM reaches the bottom end (1200 - 1000). As I push the clutch in and let off the pedal to downshift, the RPM drops all the way to idle and the noise really intensifies 'till the RPM bottoms out. Then for a brief period, as I excellerate, the noise shows up again for a short (1/2 second or so) period. Occasionally, I can rev the engine and hear the same noise but not always.



My first suspect is the cooling fan. Would this be likely? If so, can I correct this or will it corret itself? What about a bearing along the serpintine belt path. (Tensioner, Alternator, etc... ) Any guesses? Any other things I need to watch for?

After you crossed that high water you should change out all of the "fluids" in your truck. That would include flushing the transmission, brake fluid, diff's, etc. If you have not already done that do it today!!!
 
Pit Bull is right I've seen automatics in this situation who's fluid looks like a strawberry milk shake. It sounds like you submerged the vents to all your gearboxes. It's far cheaper to replace the fluid than the diffs and transmission. :(

water or sand in oil possible now after six days if you haven't changed the oil in the manual trans at least drain a small amount to see if water comes out after sitting over night water should go to bottom and come out first also feel between fingers for sand mud in oil do not use if any found first flush then refill same with other fluid . Bleed brakes and add as much as needed lube parts with spray like wd 40 gets water out. Pull out fluid with gun from rear and front pumpkin look water in bottom of pumpkin and check for sand again if found flush refill I know it expensive to change all but if you can do it better safe than sorry but if nothing else do as above and stay out of the water you never know how deep the water is as the road may not be there anymore . Thanks guys, Just got back in town and I see that I need to change my fluids ASAP.



Checked out local parts places (AutoZone and Napa) They neither one have the right Manual Transmission Lube. My book calls for synthetic 75W 85, GL-4. Closest anyone had was Mobile1 75W 90. I don't have access to many other parts places. How desperate should I get before I consider the Stealer? What are my other options? Will it hurt to leave the fluid in 'Till I find the right stuff if I don't drive it?

Standard Transmissions 800-783-8726 is a good place to buy the recommended trans fluid. Service and shipping is fast. Water+steel+time=rust, don't take your time. If there's no grit in the oil it might be better to drive and keep the surfaces oiled so they don't rust.
