Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Brakes, Good then ?

I was showing off my new HP yesterday :D on a short street where I had to let completely off the throttle shortly after a blistering 1st and 2nd gear romp.

I heard what sounded like a tire rubbing my fender type of sound (I'm sure its not) from the front right. I'm thinking its some kind of turbo sound, maybe the waste gate?

Has anyone ever experienced this type of noise.

John.

You heard what is called turbo barking. It will happen to anyone who lets up on the throttle fast under higher load/boost. What happens is the turbo suddenly starts turning backwards. High pressure built up in the hoses and intercooler has nowhere to go when you let up on the throttle so it flows backwards though the turbo and air cleaner.

It couldn't be good, I try to avoid it by not letting up the throttle all the way at once, rather do it in steps. Disengaging the cruise under load by tapping on the brake is a big culprit, keep your foot on the throttle and let it down slowly.

WOW!!!

You mean that thing goes from 200,000+/- rpms to reverse at once!???

That doesn't sound good. . I won't do that again!

Thanks, glad I asked before something bad happened.

John

I've had that happen to me a couple of times ,I looked all over right front trying to find the problem. I will definitely watch how I let off from now on.
