I went to look at what could be my 2nd CTD 4x4 today and I noticed something weird about the transfer case selector. It was what appeared to be all the way or almost all the way foward toward the dash when in 2High mode. This is for sure different than the way it is in my 3500 in my sig. Is their a difference between the 2500 and 3500 transfer cases or between a 1999 and a 2000 model to cause the difference? Wrong transfer case?

Are you able to shift it all the forward into 4-LO?

While I didnt drive the truck Im told the transfer case is fully fuctional. The dealer said the previous owner had the transfer case replaced(Why I dont know, never heard of them going out) but his only remark was that it was backwards. None of that makes scence to me as I dont see hows thats possible.

If you slide underneath the truck the linkage is trivial to adjust. A rod comes out the transfer case and the shift lever attaches with a set screw. Mine is almost all the way forward.

Backwards? As in: 2H is all the way towards the seat?

It appeared that 2 high was closer to the dash. I didnt drive but when I saw that and it looked different than my 3500 4x4 I asked the car lot guy and the answer he gave me was that he (thinks) its backwards. I left after that as my mind was reeling with dollar signs to fix that mess up. I more inclined to think Road Dog may be corerct though and its just the linkage out of adjustment as I cant wrap my mind around the actual T case being set up backwards

My new to me '97 3/4 ton is that way. All the way forward for 2wd, then pull back for 4wd high, then neutral and finally 4 low is back against the seat.

My '94 was the same way.

It's fine. It's factory.

The 1 tons may have a different transfer case or linkage.

From dash to seat: 4L - N - 2H - 4H. It's right on the knob. Both my '02 3500 CTD and my '98 1500 are the same. Both are autos. In 2H the lever is straight up. Wierd if it's different between models and years.

I wonder if the transfer case lever was installed backward. The lever has a rectangular keyway that is cut at an angle. If it is put on backward the lever will cause the shift arm to be positioned more forward. (Try that with an old Muncie "rock-crusher" or Ford top-loader 4-speed transmission - 1st gear to the left and aft, 2nd gear to the left and forward, third to the right and aft, and 4th to the right and forward. Of course they were also flipped to get the linkage to fit).

through alot of searching and info in another thread I have on here I have found it for sure has the wrong Tcase in it. Thr pattern on it is 2h-4h-N-4lo with 2-hi being all the way to the dash. Even though it is a np241HD it is one from a much newer truck to have the pattern im told

That's exactly how it should be: 2H-4H-N-4Lo from dash to seat.

I would be inclined to belive that if werent for the sticker on the backside of the sunvisor showing 4L-N-2H-4H from the dash back and the knob itself on the Tcase lever showing the same pattern. My 2000 dually has the same pattern as well 4L-N-2H-4H from dash to seat.

Same pattern in my '02.

91 to 97 have the pattern with the 2H full forward
98 to 02 have the 4L full forward
