Does anybody have any suggestions for replacing the stock rear bumper? I am really getting tired of the BID's (Budweiser Induced Dings) on the flimsy rear bumper. It seems like anything that goes bump in the night dents the thing.

I have seen the Reunels and Ranchhands and like the looks, but I am looking for something that retains the factory receiver hitch.

I searched the forum, but couldn't find any info that retains factory hitch.

Thanks!

I believe if you go with an 8" drop, you can retain the factory receiver. No need to go with a deep drop since you already have the hitch. Are you sure Ranch Hand does not have an 8" drop?

Charles

Piglet, I got the Ranchand and bought 12 inch reciever tube and had it welded into the bumper, it is way stoughter than the oem reciever ... ... ... ... ... ..... Kevin

8" Drop it is then..

Thanks...

I guess the RanchHands that I have seen have all been a 10 or 12 drop. I'll start planning the roadtrip to Texas. Why ship when you can Trip.

I bought the one that was supposed to be compatable with the factory receiver but it didnt work for crap, the receiver was 12 inches foward from the bumper and I didnt like it at all but the fix I described above is way good, ... ... ... ... ... ... ..... do it baby

Hey Texas Diesel!!???

I really like your bumper... thanks for the post. What model is it? What size drop? Are the "steps"... homemade? And if I can be rude, what was the price? I couldn't find prices on RanchHand's website. Did you install it yourself? Any mounting issues / adapters needed?

Sorry for so many questions... Thanks! If you want to reply via email: -- email address removed --

It took two people to install it. We had to drill out a couple of holes to allow it to sit high enough to clear the receiver. I think it was around $200. Worst part: I sprained two fingers lifting the old factory "bumper" Stupid EPA (Eliminate Petroleum Altogether) and Govnt mandated fuel mileages. They sell seconds for around $150 too. They only have one style of rear bumper. I got the smallest drop they had and didnt get the 2" receiver tube option.

The steps are to help me get in the bed when the tailgate is down. I got knifed in the back 11 years ago, I think the correct term is "surgery" but not sure :{ :-{} Thanks "Dr" Latellier of Mesa, AZ.

I made them and had them sprayed with bedliner material. I'll send clear pictures and construction details if t you want. They fit inside the open ends of the receiver.

please

yeah... i would like to see that... . do you make them to sell as well? and if so where can i look into getting one?

All you need is a length if 2" square tubing, chop saw, and some diamond plate for the foot pad. I put more tubing as a spacer to lower it down. I think material was around $25 and maybe $15 to have it welded. I did the cutting. I got the bedliner sprayed on for free, just had to prep it myself and leave them at the shop until the had a truck to spray. Inside the receiver tube is a seam that keeps the step from sliding in, so I took a grinder and ground a groove into the part I made so it would fit inside.

This may be a dumb question but why do you want to stay with that light weight factor receiver? The receiver on my Reunel is rated at 15K#. Not the 10K# of the factory. It seems like it is about the same height or a little lower. I put a roto-eze adjustable hitch into it which is rated at 10K# and can quickly adjusted up or down. If I wanted to I could use a Pinta Hitch and pull more weight. (I probably would overload something else though. )

I got the Reunel after someone taged the factory bumper lightly and it still pushed into the body work. :(! That raised the cost of repairs.

I have accidently backed into a tree while up in the mountains. It took some bark off and scared me BUT no damage. :)

Reason???!!!

Why do I want to retain the factory receiver? I don't.

BUT... explain to the wife (who adheres to the 'if it ain't broke. . ' theory) why i need another hitch.

it was hard enough to convince her i needed to upgrade from my 95 ram with a 360 just to tow a jayco pop up.

She fell for that, but I can only swing a bumper replacement because it's dinged.

Embarassing, but true.

Oh yeah...

Forgot...

She fell for the Stainless Straight pipe because of the increased gas mileage. The K&N because something or other about emissions, the new tires because they are safer, the RhinoLiner because the bed won't rust out, Alpine amp and head unit because the factory just plain sucks, the GPS because it helps me stay under the speed limit, the front receiver hitch because she can't back up with a trailer. . as long as there is a reason, doesn't have to be a real one. .

so help me, why do i need a flame job?
