Got Paged out at approx. 12:58A. M.

Initial page was "House fully involved with persons trapped on second floor"

Any of my fellow smoke eaters out there know how a call like that gets the old blood flowing.

I make the first engine out. Meanwhile, 3 other surrounding departments are paged out for mutual aid.

One of the mutual aid depts. arrives on scene first and says that every-one is outside.

They begin the intial attack on the first floor.

We roll up to a two story home with a truss roof approx 1/4 involved.

We advance the bumper line to the door and connect two high-rise packs to the gaited wye.

We advanced to the second floor.

Lots of smoke, lots of heat:eek:

Meanwhile, 2nd mutual aid company begins ventilation.

Our tanker arrives along with 2 other tankers at approx the same time.

They ventiled and it alleviated some of the smoke and heat, which is a good thing as I was suspecting flashover to occur and was getting a little worried.

We got the fire knocked down fairly quick and were able to locate more hot spots with the aid of our thermal imager:cool:

I smoke, so I tend to go through a 4500 bottle a little quicker than some of the other guys. It was time for me to go. :{

I go outside as some of the other engine companies are preparing to begin salvage ops.

All in all it went well. I've only been there for six years and I still have much to learn, but then again, don't we all.

A few hours later we were packing up to go home. Thats always a bummer because that means at least a couple hours of clean-up.

I get home just in time to take a much needed shower and go to work.

I'm absolutely beat, I'm sore, my Sam Houston Leather has just a little bit more cookage and as concieted as it may sound, I'm proud to be a firefighter.

Glad to hear it all worked out well for y'all smoke eaters and that everyone from the house was safe.

Thanks for the work you your fellow fire fighters do out there in Ohio, db.

Nice to have thermal imagers and high pressure SCBAs. Maybe we'll get those one of these years. We just got a new chief and fire commission and things are looking up.

Keep safe!

I love Structure fires. It definetly gets your blood pumping!

We don't have to many of them anymore but it sounds like yours went flawlessly. :)

Certified Fire Service Instructor here. :p

Whats a structure fire?

But we can cut cars with the best of them. We havent had a fire in about 6 months. Good for another year.

Stay Safe

I hear you guys,

structure fires don't come around too often. especially with the advent of sprinklers and teaching the public about fire safety and fire awareness.

Seems like they always come in 3's though. So far for 2003 we've had 2 home games and 1 away.

We had a fatal accident involving a drunk driver, who, after cruising at about 100 mph decided to park his car about 10 feet up a tree. :--)

Not Good!

Sweet looking pierce:cool: We bought an HME in 2000 and the first winter out, a drunk came down the road while we were at a mva rammed our fire police capt. 's pickup drove it into the front of our 2 month old engine and practically bent the pickup in half. We had to cut our f. p. capt out of his truck. Luckily we were just arriving on scene and no one was out of the engine yet or it would have been bad.

P. S. I still like our fdny CF mack better than the HME that old mack will draft water like crazy.

I second the sweet looking pierce. :D

We have one that looks almost identical. Tis a pleasure to drive. Plenty of power and handles well.

We also have a newer American La France which I cannot stand.

I don't like the brakes, the steering and the overall feel of the truck.

I guess when it comes down to it, it's not entirely up to us what we get seeing how the taxpayers and council pays for it.

Hey, we just got back from a Horse Rescue. ;) Horse fell through the ice of a small pond. Took us about a half hour to extricate it. We got to use our three week old dry suits we just purchased. :D

Hey Mac - I think I saw that on MSNBC! That was cool you could get the job done.

Speaking of Pierce... they're just 50 miles up the road from me. They just recently constructed 2 nice concrete display pads right next to the highway to display trucks that are finished and waiting to be delivered. I drove by there yesterday and they had a really sharp looking aerial with United States Air Force painted on the side. Very cool. It was white over red - just like a municipal truck.
