Got Paged out at approx. 12:58A. M.
Initial page was "House fully involved with persons trapped on second floor"
Any of my fellow smoke eaters out there know how a call like that gets the old blood flowing.
I make the first engine out. Meanwhile, 3 other surrounding departments are paged out for mutual aid.
One of the mutual aid depts. arrives on scene first and says that every-one is outside.
They begin the intial attack on the first floor.
We roll up to a two story home with a truss roof approx 1/4 involved.
We advance the bumper line to the door and connect two high-rise packs to the gaited wye.
We advanced to the second floor.
Lots of smoke, lots of heat
Meanwhile, 2nd mutual aid company begins ventilation.
Our tanker arrives along with 2 other tankers at approx the same time.
They ventiled and it alleviated some of the smoke and heat, which is a good thing as I was suspecting flashover to occur and was getting a little worried.
We got the fire knocked down fairly quick and were able to locate more hot spots with the aid of our thermal imager
I smoke, so I tend to go through a 4500 bottle a little quicker than some of the other guys. It was time for me to go. :{
I go outside as some of the other engine companies are preparing to begin salvage ops.
All in all it went well. I've only been there for six years and I still have much to learn, but then again, don't we all.
A few hours later we were packing up to go home. Thats always a bummer because that means at least a couple hours of clean-up.
I get home just in time to take a much needed shower and go to work.
I'm absolutely beat, I'm sore, my Sam Houston Leather has just a little bit more cookage and as concieted as it may sound, I'm proud to be a firefighter.
