stuck hood

How do you get the hood open on an '05 2500 when the latch is either broken or stuck, or the cable is broke? I'm trying to help out a friend that is working out of town and needs some work done on his 2500 CTD. The batteries are dead and when his grandpa went over to take it to the mechanic, he couldn't get the hood open to boost it off. I tried a little today, but no luck. Thanks!

Look at an operational truck of the same vintage to get some ideas

A mutual friend/mechanic got to it first. He removed the bolts holding the latch mechanism thru the front grill that released the hood. He found the cable broke at the latch and was able to get it boosted off and to the mechanic to replace the fan clutch. I guess the hood latch will be fixed asap as well.
