2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission stuck ignition

You know how if your wheels are turned all way to one side and have the ignition lock in a bind you have to turn the steering wheel to allow the ignition switch to turn. Well, mine has locked like that twice for no reason. Wheels were straight and steering wheel had play in it, but the key was locked and would not turn. Fiddled with it and luckily got it to operate both times. But would rather not have it become a habit. Any ideas or fixes?

Seems like every rig I've ever owned does it occasionally. Just jiggling the steering wheel has always allowed the key to work for me.

I know that is what I have always done. But this was different. The steering wheel was not locked like it usually is. It had free play in it and turning it either way did not help. Kinda strange.
