Stuck in 5th Gear

My 5 speed likes to get locked into 5th gear. I have it out right now trying to fix it and maybe go thru and rebuild it. 5th gear gears are showing lots of wear but all the teeth are there. Anyone have any ideas ? Does anyone know where to get a NV4500 trans and how much it costs ?

1985 1 ton Crew Cab W/8' box converted to 4X4 in 1999,converted to a 1991 Cummins Turbo diesel & 5 speed in 2000. 4:10 gears, limited slip rear end and LE Package. A one of a Kind (Wish Dodge Would build and new Crew Cab in 1 ton).

CrewCab, go the the classifieds on the TDR homepage. You'll find several NV4500's for sale, new and used.

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like you have a really unique truck that most of us would like to have.

Did not see any NV4500 trans for sale in the classifieds, any leads would be a great help.

Well, I see what you're talking about. The new classifieds don't show any NV4500's. However, the old format, accessed by clicking the button at the top of the classifieds section lists two used and one new NV 4500's under; Engines and Transmissions for Sale. They may be sold, or not. Good Luck.

As a PS, and I don't know why I offer this, what with the work you've already done, but the NV4500 is not a direct replacement. But then on your project, what is. The TDR magizine has had a article or two on this upgrade with a list of parts and cost. You may want to look into buying a set of back issues if you haven't already. Lots of good info there.

I think I will sitck to the old getrag 5 speed, know anyone who wants to sell one for a 4X4 ? Ill will take a non working one also.
