Need some help. Came across a TDR member (GShal) stuck in Barstow. His name is George. He's towing a gooseneck with 3 cars on it. Trucks down. I don't have a gooseneck to help him. He's looking for a diesel shop around this area, So Cal. Any ideas? His phone number is 801-318-9187. He asked me to PM a member by the name of MMEIR for help. He also wanted me to post his phone number if anyone could possibly help or recommend a shop to be towed too. Thanks in advance.

Just turned on the ol' computer and got your message Matt. Just called him and left a message, hope he calls back soon. Any idea what broke this time, hopefully I can help him out!!

George just called me and I'll be going down at daybreak to fetch him and his rig and load. Matt, thanks for being the messenger here!!

Well, got Mr. Shail and his rig and load back to Vegas, 2 round trips! Truck starts right up but knocks heavy and just smokes (black) like no tomorrow, I'm betting on injector(s) . His truck has a Dr. s appointment tomorrow and hopefully will know more by mid day. Any suggestions? Oil level appeared to be normal, said it acted up then cleared up and then started acting up again, so he decided to park it and hopefully saved it in time. Any special test that can be done with out fancy schmancy tools?

Never tried (on diesel) but have heard this non-fancy schmancy method. Loosen a line to an injector with engine running (make sure to wrap with rag/do not place hand in stream if one develops) if knock stops that's the bad stick. If engine gets rough tighten line and proceed to next. Is his oil level high? Hope it's not too bad. If it's just injectors then maybe it's time for some F1s.

MMeir - Glad I could help. I didn't have anything for him or the gooseneck. Best I could do was play messanger. Tell him I wish him luck getting back on the road.

-Matt

After taking it to the local Dr. , it seems it is going to need some major attention. George is having a buddy take the truck back up to SLC tonight and someone else that is in the area taking the Take 3 and cars back for him. He is resting comfortably now with Mr. Pinch before his all nighter!!

NO never loosen a pressure line on a common rail while running! You can block off the line with a fitting.

Many thanks to Matt Gillman and driverno8 for getting help going in my direction. Most of all than you so much Mark Meier for helping me and treating me like a brother. MMeier really went out of his way to assist me, entertain me, and I know I have found a real friend. Mark you are one cool dude and I'll fight anyone who says different! LOL!! Made it back to Utah at 8:00 a. m. this morning. A ton of rain and even some bad snow for a few minutues at Cedar City & Beaver, UT. But we made it through

Ended up being a blown headgasket. Going to redo the head with new valves, retainers, etc & a port and polish. Bout time for new injectors and a cam too I guess. Still working on finding that extra truck, been looking at another Red 03 and a couple of others.

Just spotted a White 3rd Gen Dually in the Flying J parking lot in Barstow, CA today around 7am. It was pulling a Royalite 5er RV. TDR Sticker on the back window and 2 stickers on the front bug shield. Also a mileage milestone vanity plate on the front. Dual CB antenna's. Nice rig! Looks like u need a new sticker for your back window... it's torn a bit!

Did you see that rig there??
