This may be 911 however I am in the driveway so it's not that bad. I have no brakes in my '96 4wd (my only vehicle). The pedal is hard as does not move unless I stand on it and then only a little brake action. There is 17 ? of vacuum at the booster. Help, the auto parts stores are open tomorrow till noon only (they should be closed). Merry Christmas Skip

unplug the hose off the booster

if vacumn escapes out of it . . check valve or hose bad

if not --still can be check valeve or booster

if hyd booster ..... Dont know

Will the truck roll freely on it's own. Carefully loosen the lines at the master cylinder and inspect for any fluid under pressure without brake pedal application.

Hi I re-connected the vacuum line and ran the engine. Stopped and disconnected it again and vacuum escaped. Now for the kicker the brakes work now at least in the drive way and the brake lite went out as well as the ABS lite.

Did you figure your problem out yet?

If not, I ran into a similar problem a while back. My vacuum hose (above the pump) would get soft and started pinching itself off. This would cause no brakes.

Thank you very much. I have not solved the problem in that I don't know what caused it . It went away as quick as it came ( after I disconnected the vacuum line). However I turned off the engine once while it was happening and it did not solve anything. I will replace the main line to the booster (correct?) Anything else? Skip

Has anyone worked on the transmission/transfer case lately? What about the front axle? The vacuum controls the vacuum disconnect found in the front axle. The control mechanism to the front axle is in the transfer case. How is your HVAC? It's also controlled by vacuum. At the beginning of my vacuum problems I installed small zip ties at every splice point. While this helped the actual problem was the vacuum connections at the transfer case.
