Just a FYI thing.
My wifes 5 speed got stuck in gear (at home!) So I took the shift tower off to see what was up.
On the end of the gear shift lever, inside the shift tower is a roll pin inside a little cam like part. This cam like part engages the shift rails in the transmission.
The roll pin had worked it's way out one side. It didnt drop off inside the transmission but one end was still in the outer part. The other end of the roll pin had broke off in the other side.
This was enough to cause it to not be able to engage the shift rails and get stuck in reverse.
The only symptom was that for a long time the shifts felt "mushy". Seemingly the one end of the roll pin broke and then the roll pin (supported on one end only) would flex with each shift and give the mushy feel to the shifter.
The 5600 transmission has the same setup.
I found a 1"x1/8" roll pin that fit perfectly and now carry a spare in the toolbox.
