2001, 89,000 miles. I have only had the truck about 9 months. I was putting on the 2 inch level kit Saturday and was staring up at the waste gate. The truck has always had a real problem chuffing the turbo, but since this is my first auto I figured it was normal. So I tried moving it just to check for proper operation. STUCK.

I tried penetrating lube, and even put a wrench on it. No movement. I was scared to try to hard and break it.

I don't have gauges on the truck yet. I suppose that should be my next purchase. The comp pump wire is not hooked up and it's left on setting #2 before I get yelled at for not having gauges on it! ;)

Can anyone just by looking tell me if it's stuck closed, open or 1/2 way. This pic is looking up from the wheel opening with the top shock tower removed.

It looks to be in the closed possition. When you are trying to open it manually be sure to rotate away from the actuator (pot).

Try loostening the nuts on the pot to see if its a stuck pot or lever or maybe its not stuck at all. Those pots have an amazing amount of force.

Your "chuffing" happens when you let out of the throttle quik, Yes? That is not a product of waste gate opperation. Thats the sound of pressurized air backing out through the compressor wheel.

Better get that sucker fixed & gauges! Sorry to kind a yell but, mine was the same way last week. The other day I blew my head gasket, radiator full of oil.

A real ugly mess, that you can avoid, I know I hit 50# spikes a couple times

Good luck, Bill

Yeah, I tried to move it away from the actuator. But it wouldn't move at all. Maybe I can remove the actuator and see if it is stuck first. I don't want to buy a new turbo until the trans is built because there is no way it's staying stock.

Yeah, it barks when I let out of the throttle. I thought if the wastegate was stuck it would be creating more boost and maybe that's why it does it. My old 01 HO and my 03 didn't do it but they were 6 speeds.

Off to buy gauges today I guess. My accountant is going to hang me! :-laf
