"Only one Programmer allowed"

Thats our local MTPA, they just got a diesel class this year and they really have no clue.

Here are the rules to our local pulls in this area, some of them are a little weird. Is rule # 7 common around? I am on the tech commity but was not involved in writing the rules.

Diesel 4X4 Pickups

1. Radiator must be in factory location.

2. OEM Transmission and transfer case are required. They must be from a one ton chassis or smaller.

3. OEM chassis is mandatory, the engine must be in factory location. No wheel tubs, backhalfs, or tube chassis, flatbeds are allowed.

4. No Dyed or high performance fuels. On road clear diesel must be used.

5. Hitches with reinforcements are allowed. No trick hitches. The hitch must be the rear most point of the vehicle excluding exhaust.

6. A stock suspension is required. The use of ladder bars, traction bars are permitted. Reinforcements for the steering are permitted.

7. OEM cylinder heads with no cutting or welding or moving of ports are required. Porting is allowed as long as the head has not been modified to do so.

8. No solid suspensions, all vehicles must have at least one inch of travel.

9. All vehicles must be street driven with mandatory functional headlights, taillights and reverse lights.

10. Injection systems are limited to no more than two high pressure common rail Pumps (commonly known as CP3 pumps) or one P series injection pump with maximum of 13mm barrels and plungers. Common rail systems are limited to one injector per cylinder. Injection style pumps are limited to one barrel and plunger per cylinder.

11. Air to air intercooling only is allowed. No water to air intercooling or air to water intercooling. After market air to air intercoolers are allowed.

12. Must be full bodied truck with interior and wipers etc…

13. A loop on the drive shafts is strongly recommended. Must be made of at least ¼” thick steel or 3/8” thick aluminum will be mandatory. In the future on all drive shafts that are visible from the side of the truck.

14. A 2. 8” maximum turbo inlet with no more than one- ¼” map width enhancement is allowed, any other provisions allowing air to enter the charger are prohibited. Trucks are limited to one charger. Trucks with multiple chargers are to run at 300# less per turbocharger (ex. Twin chargers run at #8200, three chargers run at #7900 etc…).

15. A minimum of a 3x 3. 5” opening for the hitch is required. A 26” hitch height will be enforced and is measured from the top of the hitch. The hitch must be horizontal or parallel to the ground and must be solid in all directions. No loose clevises.

16. No cut or bar tires. DOT approved tires only.

17. Hanging weight is permitted as long as weight does not extend forward more than 60” from the center of the front axle.

18. Exhaust must be blown up or down. Two 3/8” bolts must in the exhaust in a cross pattern as close to the turbocharger as possible.

19. All drivers must wear seat belts.

20. All drivers must wear helmets.

21. No nitrous oxide. If so equipped, all components must be disabled. No other oxygen extenders whatsoever may be used.

22. No propane injection. If so equipped, all components must be disabled.

23. Water injection is allowed. Water ONLY, no alcohols, or other foreign substance additives. A pump lube may be used.

24. Weight limit will be 8500lbs. unless there is a handicap applied.

25. OEM cylinder blocks and heads from 1 ton or smaller vehicles must be used.

Those dont look bad, except for the 8500 pounds. Of course, if your local group that is pulling wants to run with their tool boxes, etc on the crew cabs, I guess it works.

Yeah he sent me the pics.

Ate a new groundhawg? tire

punched some holed in his bed

twisted the mounts off of his D80

punched holes in the gas tank.

But, now he is bringing it back badder than before.

i forget what rules i was reading, but they had work stock, and modified class for diesels. any truck with more than a programmer or chip was in modified, and they required helmets, neck braces, and a certified fire suit!

also

-ladder bars must have safety loops...
so safety equipment needs safety equipment now.

Here is a rule from a local 8000lb street diesel class.

"Turbochargers must be in original location and must be an O. E. M. style turbo. for the engine"

I got clarification on this and for a Dodge as long as its a Holset its ok. No Size Limit... ... .

While I agree some of the rules are corny, I am one who fully supports safety equipment, because it is the right thing to do. The helmet/neckbrace might be a little extreme, I have seen carnage go into the stands and if safety equipment would have been in place this wouldn't have happened. Luckily a little kid didn't loose his eye. Most of the safety equipment just involves some time and less than $500.

I'll tell you that Ill State Pullers have some of the worst rules. They dont make any scence. And the worst thing is that they keep changing them even though we voted them in, some how they keep changing. They want diesel trucks to pull at 6500 pounds. Ill tell you that it is very hard to get a extended cab truck down to that weight. They want you to have an electronic kill switch and a air knife that can be killed at the back of the truck and they want a fuel dump.

My favorite:

"Trucks cannot be hauled to the pull. "

That is a ridiculous rule!! some of the fairs "try" to enforce that rule but sometimes with enough grief from the pullers they let it slide. ("Sometimes")

And then they try to tell you its not street legal:mad:

Ive never heard of that, It would be tough, my truck weighs 6940 with a full tank and me in it.

my truck is a 100% street legal daily driven vehicle. it takes me to work, the store, my gf's house etc because its the only vehicle i own. but when i go to pull it goes on a trailer for 3 reasons:
-gets me home if i break it
-its easier to put the blocks, DS loops, etc on, and drop air pressure at home then at a pull. when it comes off the trailer its ready to run.
-1 truck at 12-14mpg towing is still better than 2 trucks at 17-18mpg (if they can even get that good of mileage)
