Pan dropped aweek ago. Much aluminium flakes, much clutch mat. in pan. Very loud swooshing sound when under load. Had spikes in temp...

Trans shop says TC is eating itself, statior has come loose.

Is the TC susspost to be able to wiggle up and down back and fourth when fully seated on shaft?

Yes, there will be some movement up and down and around when it is installed on the stator support. Who is build the TC's? Probably time to invest is one form Goerends that knows how to build them instead of a run of the mill TC build. Too many supposed "great" TC's are not that great, even triple disks. Don't scrimp on the TC or you will just have problems, it is the heart of the trans and if it doesn't stand up well the rest is history also.

10-4 on the converter. My trans is built allready. Its a shame to take it out because of a faulty converter. The trans builder even admitted they dont use this converter anymore. Ther a good Ma and Pop shop, he said he would make it right. I started a post down in the 24v section. Hoping to be able to get some pics of the teardown.

I don't think the builder is the problem, just some bad parts. I realize these shops have their particular brand of TC they like and have had good luck with, but, some of them are just not up to the task when they get thrashed a little bit. You simply cannot spend enough on the TC even if it 1/2 the cost of the trans build. When it implodes everything is for naught. Best advice I can give is get a Goerend TC and don't scrimp the $$ on it, I have gone thru a couple different types with decent luck but the Goerend by far is the biggest improvement on TC design and actual function.

So the builder wants to use a dampened tripple disk with parts from sonnax. He says offhand the price will be around 1550$. Cant find much info on dampened vs non dampened. He says they are a little easyer on the input shaft. Hes also going to upgrade the rear drum retainer to billet

That is spendy. Goerends triple disk is about $1200 and has patented parts inside of it and all the dampening. Unless you are towing heavy or racing it the triple is over kill, lot of extra weight for little gain there. A good single with pressures setup correctly hasn't slipped in the 800-900 TQ range for a good 10 years.

Did it smoke the forward clutch pack, that why he wants to do a billet piston?

The clutch disks and metal disks had sighns of ware. He says also the rear most clutch diggs into the drum/retainer housing after a while as there is lotts of pressure in that area. Im not to shure on what he was talking about but i trust him, there good people. On the TC yes its a little spendy.

Yeah, it is a weak spot on the cast OE piece. I would not do a triple disk unless running 25-30k all the time or building a 10 second truck. Expense and weight is just not contributory in most conditions. I would spend the difference and get a good 1 piece billet input shaft.

So i talked to him today and good news. The TC shop cut the converter and said a bearing was no good causing the weird noises. The TC it self was not trashed and able to be rebuilt. The cost is only 580$ to rebuild with a new dampened clutch:) sonnax parts.

The only internals not upgraded was the drum/retainer. The valve body is a custom in shop made. The input, intermead and output are all allready billet. When i pick up trans i will ask for a detailed build sheet. He explained these super hd towing trans he builds are the equivalant to the 7 and 8k units offered by the bigger builders out there the only difference is only one person puts together, him.

I did drive this truck hard. Hard when towing. Hard when out in the woods. Hard while working. The Edge is always turned up. The tripple disk may be overkill but least i can say i have one i guess.
