my shift knob numbers are upside down and it's driving me nuts. I tried turning it and almost sprained my wrist and was afraid to break something. Does the knob tread off or not??
yep, I believe the number button is just popped into a groove in the round knob... careful prying on it though, my 5 speed has some rough spots from being pryed out.
when I changed my shift knob to one of Geno's Cummins Power knobs, I wasn't able to pry my numbered insert out with out seriously chewing up the stock knob.
Under the shift pattern cover there is a jam nut to stop the knob from turning. If it is cold out warm the knob with a hair dryer and use a small screwdriver to pry out the insert. Reinstall using a small amount of silicone glue and this will help prevent it from turning.
