My 2001 HO with 90000 miles has begun to stutter, especially after shifting (6 sp transmission). At first it was very minor, and pushing the throttle down seemed to produce full power. I was pretty sure it was the TPS, however coming home tonight it started missing so bad I was concerned it may quit. Varying the throttle didn't seem to make much difference, but by the time I got home it seemed to be running normal.

I checked tonight and there are no trouble codes stored. I did a search on past posts and couldn't find anything quite the same.

I would like some opinions before I start throwing parts at it.

You don't have a TPS so its not going to be that simple. The APPS on your truck does a lot more than a TPS and is a lot more prone to failure.

Might try an APPS reset, check the fuel filter for water or contamination, and see you have good pressure to the VP.

Take it out and drive it hard with lots of throttle variation, preferably on hills, to load and unload the engine. Check your codes again and see if it will throw some that lead somewhere.

Look for a P0216 or APPS related codes.

Thanks much.

I'll have to do a little homework on the APPS. Other than the lift pump this is the first problem I have encountered.

My 2001 HO developed some similar issues that were followed by dead batteries. After installing 2 new batteries the stumble disappeared. It seems that one battery was going dead causing the the problem.
