New Shelby GT 500's

Hey All, Got it out and down the mountain today. Yesterday my son and I babied it around the local roads and kept adding coolant laced with BARSLEAK. :D Didnt overheat once, yesterday, or today after driving over 100 miles, 3500'+ elevation change and stop and start in town!!! Will see if I have lost coolant through the overflow into the tank after it sits overnight. The heater was blowing hot air, so there was no air pocket in the heater core. We'll just limp along for a while. Patience, if there is a bug, it will manifest itself. Murphys Law!

Well here it is March. The Subaru engine is up to 225,000+ miles and we are still running. Have to transfer coolant daily ( after use ) from the overflow tank back into the radiator. Thankfully the radiator is a metal unit. Blew out the original plastic tank radiator after a few exhaust gas episodes. Bars leaks doesnt work. (The brown stuff ). Found a new product by Bars Leaks that claims to do head gasket repair. You must drain all coolant and then pour in a solution of this stuff. It is a " liquid ceramic" with some type of hi-tech fiber. Will try this as soon as we get a little predictable warm weather. The next step is the replacement engine. :{ Oh Well! GregH

Our Outback has a leaky head gasket after 224,000 miles. I contacted CNC Motors in Santa Ana, California about one of their used engines from Japan. Seems that the Japanese have VERY STRICT inspection requirements and the engines for sale have <60,000 miles. CNC motors say they offer 6mo. /6000mi. warranty. The price delivered is $1300. The cost just to replace the head gaskets is close to that and I will still have a 224,000 mile engine. This has been an excellent car for my wife. She drives like Mario Andretti :--) , rain, snow, sleet, or sunshine. I have been her one man pit crew for many years. Any thoughts or experiences to share are all appreciated. Thanks, GregH

I've done two of these motors. The local shop changes the belts and a seal ... might be the rear main, when you buy it. Sold both vehicles with no problems on the motors. I also sent a number of people to get the same done.

Forrest, Thanks for the reply. This is the next step, if I want to keep this car on the road this summer. Really appreciate the input about your experience with the used engines. I dont have a spare $30K for a new Subaru. If I did it would be a DODGE/CUMMINSOo. GregH
