Hard Drive Crashed--Help

My wife called to say her Suburban 1997 4x4 (454) will not move, it appears to be shifting but the thing trys to move but doesn't. It stuck in the garage, so she can get the Dodge in.

Transmission 4L80E

It done this a few times before but usually rolls after a minute in netural or a few shift, this time is just stalls. Act like torque convert drain down. One transmission guys say there something about a front pump when it cold, is this something I can change or is a transmission rebuild.

Does DTT do Chevy transmissions.

Thanks

What does the fluid look like, is it full and bright red. Or does it smell like burnt popcorn? It sounds like it is low on fluid, either that or the transmission is shot.

I believe the 97 has a either a 4L60E or a 4L80E. I am sure DTT will rebuild either one of those.

Sounds like you are low on fluid. When you are low, it will usually not move when put in gear, then if you rev it up, it will suddenly engage and launch hard. Not good for the trans.

If your fluid is in good shape, you can possibly get around the front pump circulation probs by changing to a decent synthetic ATF. I use Redline, but others work well also.

Don't buy a new house to fix a leaky faucet... . Eliminate the little things first.

the 4l80e trans is pretty stout for a stock transmission [basically electronic OD version of th400] when i had my diesel tahoe [1997] it had the 4l80e and that trans shifted very well and i never had trouble with it [actually, looking back, that entire truck was pretty darn reliable... and i miss her:( and the diesel fumes/smoke that my 4" straight pipes would make:{ ] man i need to get my 04 HO cummins ram... i am going through diesel withdrawls

I wished I had the time to drop a Cummings in the Suburban, it could use the mileage. other than it works great as a kid hauler, the other option I tried to sell was stretching the Dodge, but she did but that yet.
