1995 ford 1 ton conv to a cummins

Converting a 1 ton to a 3/4 ton

Does anyone know a web page where's a Cummins installed in to the -90 2500 2wd Suburban. I'll start this project after a few months so any info will be helpful. How about rear end ratio the burb is going to see 6600 trailer only ones in a month, maybe 3. 42 is a good or even below of that, what ya think.

Can't help you with the web page, I've seen one before but can't remember where...

I have an Isuzu Turbo Diesel in my truck (5. 8 liter direct injected, inline pump, chrome dry liners, roller lifters, etc), and in my rear end (14 bolt FF) I'm running 3. 21's.

I also have an allison.

With no overdrive, I'm running 2450 rpm at 75... (Better than 3200 with 4. 10's:--) )

If you're using an overdrive transmission, 3. 42's should be okay, and they are easier to find than the 3. 21's, but I prefer not to tow in overdrive... (the allison doesn't have one, anyways)

I just towed a trailer with a jeep on it (somewhere around 6600 pounds) down to southern utah... everybody says you need low gears, but I stayed above 70, even on the big hills...

If you need help finding ring and pinion's, I have some good sources...

Anyways, here's my web site:

Where did you find 3. 21s? I've never heard of such a high ratio for a 14 bolt full floater, I thought the lowest you could go was a 3. 42.

On a related note, I know a lot of people who would be interested in gears lower than 5. 13s for them, too.

Malcolm, Are the motor mounts something you made or bought? I have a 98 like yours and this is the direction I want to go in. Nice pictures.

Cummins

I built the motor mounts, they were not hard to fabricate up as the Cummins mounts are very "user friendly". I could have left the IFS under the front but I wanted a solid axle truck also.

Malcolm.

I will post some more pic of the underside when I have a Chance.

Nice truck, Malcolm. That's the way GM should build 'em. :D Sometime in the future I'd like to build a crew cab Cummins truck. Been planning on a '80's Dodge crew cab body, but am thinking of the '90's GM crew cab lately. So, it's good to see some pics. The solid Dana 60 is a "must-do" for me too.
