Successful sport headlight conversion

Anyone that has not done this modification, I think should because it is a BIG difference and in one night I know it saved me from hitting at least three deer. I got the lenses off of E-bay and they came with bulbs in them and I purchased the wiring harness from suvlights.com. Only thing I had to do was cut out some of the inside fender to make the lights fit, and the day time running lights no longer work as a result of the wiring harness I would guess. However so far so good with no hot wires or added stress to the system that I can tell.

I agree that it does make a very big difference; and I wish I had done it much sooner.

Im not to worried about the "day time" running lights not working as I never really cared for them anyway. My aftermarket driving lights work fine as well as they are on their own toggle.

Where did you guys get those from? I would like to get a better lights then OEM. The sports conversion looks stock and I want that. Please let me know where is the best place to get the necessary harness and the lights.
It does look really nice and if it provides a noticeable difference, it's worth it.

I got my lights off of e-bay, did a search for “dodge ram sport headlight” and it came with a list, I think they were something like $158 or something and then I got the wiring harness from suvlights.com for $138 there abouts. There are no directions with either the lights or the harness so you need to either do your homework on TDR or just be somewhat savvy and you will figure it all out.

Got the harness from SUV also, Old Man Bob-got the headlights from Dodge and he installed them for me! Their was a write up in a earlier TDR Mag on how to install also.

Got my upgraded headlights off Ebay too - and also the new tail lights to match:

Tail lights were cheap, and only minutes to install - much better lighting, including back up lighting.

BEmmert, did you find it necessary or just easier to completely remove the front bumper during the headlight installation?



Also, is that a custom front bumper? It looks similar to a Reunel, but with a better placement of the side wrap bar to the side of the turn signal/parking lamps. I like it.

I can't answer for BEmmert, but I had to completely remove the front bumper (which added a fair amount of time to the project) because the lights would not quite clear the bumper for removal or reinstallation; this was with the bumper completely loose on the front end.

CTD12V, I can't say if it is necessary or not with a stock bumper, but with my aftermarket bumper it was a quick 5 mins to take it on and off. I tried to just pull it out some, but it was still a bit of a pain to work around so I just yanked it all the way off with a shop hoist. The bracket for the headlights is some what large and cumbersome so it does not take much to get it hung up on something.

The bumper was made in Heppner Oregon by a guy named Jay Coil. He is well known around the northwest for his bumpers and his flatbeds. Pretty heavy duty stuff he makes and I had him spray my bumper with bed liner so it would not rock chip.
