Wiring in some auxiliary lights tonight. Did a little, very little, under the dash and in the fuse box. Now the truck won't start. Starter doesn't move, "wait to start" series of lights wont come on. The lights (outside and in) work, key buzzer works but the radio, cig lighter and power outlet are also dead. Fuses are OK.

What do you s'pose I messed up?

Well what ever you did was the wrong thing to do. Where I would start is to put back everything the way it was. Well sort of. hehehe If I may suggest bring in a fused wire to the cab #14 + ( positive) will work well have it run through one switch this will provide a single turn off point for all relays. this will supply power to the coils of any of the relays that you may want to use. Do also bring in negitive wires for the coils that you want to power. because these are small drawing items (150 milli amps) so 18 awg is fine. I punched a 3/4" electrical knock out just in behind the 4x4 shifter with a mires hub with seal tight brought up to the cab for water proofing the conection. I used #12 wire ( weather proofed fused)to feed the relays in behind the air filter. Hope this helps pm me if you need more info and will walk girlfriend thought what to say. Take care,

check that main yellow wrapped fuse in the fuse box

I agree. Dunno what year you have, but my 96 has a fuse called IOD or something. Very bottom left of panel, inside cab. I blew it when i installed my stereo, and had the same thing. Also check that there are no loose or burnt wires.

Enimmo,

When you post a problem, especially an electrical problem, we need to know about your truck: especially year and transmission type.

The first thing you want to do for a problem like this is to check your fuses.

Tried the yellow-wrapped fuse. no joy.

Can't see anything that looks burnt or obviously loose.

In retrospect, I do think I bypassed a fuse at one point and caused a short; didn't realize it at the time (no smoke or sparks). I know there are other fuses under the hood. Can these have anything to do with interior functions?

Truck is '97 4wd hd stock engine ex kn air filter. Auto trans. Rear locker, firestone airsprings.

What color is this big fuse.

Besides, I do have interior lights ignition buzzer (stupid thing), glove box light, 4wd light.

I have a '95 so I don't have the wireing diagram for a '97. Where did you connect the light circuit? Did you do the job with the batteries disconnected? Did you install a switch for the aux lights?
