I am on the road in Yosemite National Park, and when I fired up my 2001 2500 yesterday, the EGT spiked to around 900 degrees F. after idling for only a couple of minutes. I know that is still in the green, but normally, around home (Portland, OR) I don't see those temperatures until I'm fully warmed up and out on the open road, even hauling. Other symptoms of note: 2 days ago in Mt. Shasta, when I fired up the truck (25 degrees outside, the idle began climbing, until I moved the stick shift back and forth in neutral, then it dropped back down. Any ideas why I'm seeing such high temperatures all of a sudden? is the idle thing related?

The highest EGT I can get with my e-brake and high idle engaged is around 650 degrees. I think the first thing I would question would be the pyrometer. I had one start giving me goofy temps and I found a poor connection between the thermocouple and the gauge.

I had a big increase in exhaust temperature when developed leak [clamp failed] on hose of output of turbo. Got new hoses and better clamps from Geno's. 4 blue hoses and 8 clamps. Mel
