Traveling across Kansas along I-70, the EGTs started rising to 1250 where the had normally been around 950.

There was also a noticeable rise in the coolant temperature. Where both the OEM and aux gauges never rose above 190, they now reach near 210.

There is also a loss of power and/or acceleration. The turbo is still producing 25 to 30 inches of boost.

To keep the temperatures in check, requires a downshift and slower speeds.

I suspect that there may be a sticky valve or a faulty injector. Possibly dumping unburned fuel causing higher temps? The exhaust is smoking heaver than it did before and it is leaving soot on the rear quarter panel.

What do you folks think?? Faulty valve?? Faulty injector???

I think you are westbound.

Traveling west across Kansas on I-70 you are almost certainly facing a wind and slowly climbing in elevation as you move closer to the Rockies.

The fact that you are producing high boost says the engine is working hard and normally. Coolant temp increase is further evidence.

Your sense of loss of power says you're climbing and/or pushing a wind.

I would relax and be thankful I was driving a mighty Cummins in a great platform. I traveled from Virginia Beach to Bremerton, WA 45 years ago in a Chevy C2500 with a cabover camper mounted and a VW in tow. You haven't seen loss of power if you haven't done that. I had my foot to the floor to maintain 50 mph IIRC. Gas mileage was measured in gallons per mile not miles per gallon.

Sudden high EGR--forgot the geography

Thanks Harvey. I knew that, but forgot. That area "LOOKS" so level that you do not think that you are climbing. Turned South at Oakley toward Scott City, and it ran like it should until we got closer to Lake Scott and the hills and valleys were taller.

I also forgot what it was like trying to go from Stockton, CA to Roseburg. OR before the bigger turbo and fuel plate.
