Sudden Uncommanded Redirect to Scheid Diesel?

I was reading a thread when suddenly the page navigated to this:



Scheid Diesel.



Is this a bug, or a new advertising strategy? It's unnerving, to say the least.

If I leave the computer and it goes to sleep while a TDR forums page is displayed, often when I wake it back up the Scheid Diesel homepage is staring back at me. I was wondering what was going on - glad to see it isn't just me.

I noticed that too, couldn't figure out what the heck happened. Figured i'd gone there without realizing it. Now that you mention it though i'm curious as well

This is disturbing behavior, because if you can be sent to Scheid's website involuntarily, what's to stop some unscrupulous hacker sending you off to something malicious?

First, note which banner ad is displayed before it happens. That could help narrow the search for the cause.

Second, which browsers are y'all using? That could also be helpful.

It's Happened to me a few times now. Firefox 3. 6 and I have pop ups disabled for a trusted site like TDR. Just did it to me as I was typing this

I just had it happen in General Diesel forum. Thought it was a pop up.

It's a problem with one of Scheids flash banner ads. I'm working on the problem.

in firefox, you can also install a flash blocker that will not play flash content unles you press the play button. I use that a lot too.



(Flash is very poorly implemented and in-secure but we have to live with it until HTML5 replaces 4. )

We modified the Scheid diesel banner ad, and we caused the problem. It was nothing they did.



We will get the code fixed then turn it back on.
