Sugarland Band Lead Singer Question

Why does she sing with that slang/whine voice? She CAN sing "normally" Is it a gimick? I don't listen to this type of music much but we need a local station for weather and school closing confirmation with all the buses.

Only certain songs that she saings do I agree with you on. When those come on CMT/GAC, I just mute it and look at her. Sometimes she looks better than she sings.
