Sugestions on new tires for 03 2500 4x4

Looking at BF Goodrich A/T 285s.

I want decent wear and off/on traction, but also not killing my mpg. Is there such an animal?



I probably should stick with the 265 for mileage, but I just like the look of a little bit bigger tire.



Any suggestion would be appreciated.

You did not say what your gear ratio is but I doubt you will see much mileage difference between the 265's and 285's. The BFG's are the best wearing tire I have ever tried.

Can I still use the 265 spare with these on a short distance, if it is on the front and running in 4X2 mode?

I am running the 285 BFGs on both of my QC trucks. I think they are great tires and pretty long lasting as well. I still carry the 265 spare on both trucks. If mounted only for a short time you aren't going to hurt anything but front would be the best place to mount it if you have to.

I had BFG 285's on my truck before my Kore system. I did a 600 mile round trip from sea level to 7k, down to 4k, back up to 7k and returned to sea level.



No traffic, completely stock aside from tires, 70mph constant...



19. 6mpg hand calc. Never been able to do it again. Best I have gotten with my 35 inchers is 18. 5.

I run the 285 BFG ATs on my 03. Can't say it hurt my mileage or power. Have about 30K on them and looks like I can get at least 50K before they look worn out. It's not hard to eat up tires on these trucks as you may have noticed.



I have also considered the Dick Cepek Fun Country II. Also comes in 285-17. they call it a 33" I believe. Attractive tread design. Don't know much else about them. It's hard to beat BFG. They are a Michelin company.

I would recommend 285's. BFG A/T's, if you want some nicer looking tires, go with the MT's I'm very happy with mine so far. They handled in the California rainstorms like a wet dream haha

Procomp has some 33/12. 5/17, that they say are 305/70R17.

Is that true and would they fit? I hear of board members using BFG 315s on their trucks.

HoeWheel parts sale is a load of BS. They raise the prices on the tires to offset the loss of profit for giving away one tire. The procomps don't wear that well either. Stick to BFG 305's. The cost of the BFGs above the fake sale on procomps is less than 75 bucks after i added everything up

I have ran all types of tires between both trucks.



The sale at 4wheelparts.com is pretty good. Yes they raise prices on the tires for the sale but they give free shipping, so you are still saving over 150 bucks or so.

I have run procomps on a lifted jeep before and the tires cupped badly and did not wear good. The tires are no where near the quality of a BFG. Hands down.



To get the free shipping, you need to buy the 80 dollars tire warranty. Plus you pay tax as you would pay at a local store. So the benefit of buying from 4 wheel parts is really non-existant. Plus i hate buying from them since they are a huge company that always messes the orders up, lies to customers, and does not care.

Size LT285/70R17 121S The 121= 3197 load per tire and the S= good to 112 mph. They are very quiet, excellent wet, dry and on road snow traction.

When my tires wear out I will probably look at a 19. 5" wheel/tire combo. Great load capacity and very long tread life.

I've not done a great deal of research on these tires, but all I did find had a 75MPH speed rating... probably a conservative #... . not that I would actually do 75mph... .

Your lifted Jeep aparently needed an alignment or ball joints or shocked replaced. Tires don't just cup because they're poor quality. If they were running down the road straight they would have done just fine.

You only pay tax because you're in California. Buy Pro-Comps from many of the other online vendors and you not only won't get the increased price but you won't have to pay the sales tax.
