Suggestion for Modifying Signatures

I was thinking about how the board could be improved a little. When a search is made for a subject, sometimes all I get are "hits" in signatures. The threads might look cleaner without signatures. Sometimes when I want to see what someone is talking about, I look at their signature - if it's been included. How could all of this be made a little better? I think by deleting the check box for including the signature in the post and adding a button to see a members signature under the post along with the other buttons. If someone wants to see a signature, they click on the button. It would cut down on a lot of unnecessary search hits. It would allow one to see a members signature when needed. It would make the threads look cleaner. Just a thought.

Hows this for compromise?

If you don't wish to see the signatures, you have the ability to turn them "off". Goto "User CP", then click "Edit Options". Scroll down to Thread View Options, and select "no" for showing signatures. When you think you wanna look at someones signature then you can go turn it back on.

I think it does not solve the original problem he wants to solve. Which is too many hits in a search, causes by information is sigs not just posts.



Search options include title only or entire posts. Can there be another new search option that is title and content only, and does not include the sig.

But... ... . if you have the signature option off then will it still search them????? Good question... ... I'll test the therory.

Turn off signatures and it doesn't include them in the search!!!



Just tested it, I searched for "Auto" in this forum, and the only signature that came up was one. Due to it not being "displayed" properly because of using HTML improperly. Its on the "Server Upgrade Complete" thread. Otherwise things in signatures do not show up. Unless I missed something, it works like I "Thought" it would, but I tested it quickly.....



Anyone else test it? Findings?

Thanks KatDiesel! I shoulda thought of that! That really only leaves the problem of being able to see a signature when it has not been included in the post. Of course you can scout around to find a post with the members signature (if they have created a signature and posted it at some time).



P. S. I did a search with signatures turned off. I think on the older threads, the signature is part of the message now. It seems to work fine on the threads since the server upgrade. I still think a button to show a signature would be slick. Or maybe include the signature in the users profile.
