It's time to change coolant again and I need suggestions to help make this a quicker project. The last time I changed coolant I decided to clean the system with some engine coolant system/radiator cleaner before adding new coolant and distilled water. The method I used to drain the system was opeing the petcock on the radiator. The problem I had was waiting for the T-stat to open so the old stuff would go into the radiator which I would then drain, refill the radiatior with clean water and run the engine until the t-stat opened again and keep repeating the process until the system was thoroughly flushed and cleaned. This turned into a very time consuming job.
Any thought on how to flush the system and refill it quickly and without making a big mess? I had considered pulling the lower radiator hose and letting everything drain out the block and radiator that way, but looks messy. Is there a way to maybe tap into one of the heater hoses and use the waterpump with the truck running to pump out all the old coolant while flushing the system? (like on of those Prestone flush kits that splices into a heater hose?) I have also considered removing the t-stat for coolant changing so I don't have to wait for it to open like last time and continue to use the radiator petcock to drain the system. I'm leaning in this direction since I want to replace my t-stat with the revised one anyway.
Anyone with some helpful suggestions?
