West Wing Episode Missed

Lab puppy is 9 months old and has some listening problems when distracted by other people/animals. My 25 year old frame can't catch him anymore either and he knows it. I'm looking at the Dogtra 1500. Best place for price? Any input would be appreciated.

I use Tritronics collars. I got them because the stock manager here had four border collies and he did a bunch of research into the collars and ended up with a four dog Tritronic setup.

I got a one dog model then I got two dogs. So, I had to sell my one dogger and purchase a two dog model. Nope, as tempting as it is, I won't have more than two -- I value my sanity. ;) Good news was the one dogger sold quick, the bad news is I didn't have enough foresight to get the two dog first. Oh well, you know what they say about a fool and his money. Moral of the story is plan ahead.

When ever we go out for a walk, bike, ski, or head into the woods for the week the collars go on. That way they love them -- "Oh joy, its time to herd something, and I don't care what... bike. . okay, skis... . okay, ground squirrels or tree squirrels... . okay, horse or mule... . okay, well sometimes, deer or elk..... ah... . nope!" They vie for position, who gets to be the first to get a collar on.

Starr is so sharp that, even though I hide the control inside my coat, when I put my hand ... . just so... . she knows whats coming (not good because they aren't suppose to know). "See I'm behaving, I didn't mean it, really!" She too smart for her own good. Fortunately, I have to use it very rarely.

Not sure if your talking about collars for electric fence. I use Petsafe. I buy them direct from manufacture in Tenn somewhere.

The golden retriever is great with it. In fact he don't even need batteries in his :)

the black lab was fine with it for around 8 years, then someone spooked it with a gun (really not sure what happened, she was even gun broke. ) Now anytime there is a loud noise (like a gun fire or backfire) she bolts. Even the nastiest collar they make don't stop her. I must have walked this fence 1000 times with her, but when she spooks she bolts. She only goes next door to my brothers but we don't know that until we find her. I gave up, now she is on a chain that slides on 150 foot of wire.

I had the exact same thing happen with my black lab and found out she had a bad ear infection, I got rid of the infection but she was still shy of loud noises, have the vet check the ears

Thanks DT, she always gets a clean bill of health from the vet. She is 12 now, this time when the vet gave her her shots he said "this will probably be the last time she needs these shots". She's healthy, but I guess he knows they don't live much longer then 13 years or so?

I have an Innotek collar, and I've had not problems with it. It works great for up to half a mile. Very well made, quality transmitter, quality collar, comes with 2 rechargers (one for transmitter and one for collar) and has 15 power levels.

The guy at Bass Pro Shops that recommended it to me said he had tried them all and this was by far the best. He wasn't a salesman either. He said he was an avid bird hunter and had many dogs that he trains himself.

I have the CS-2000 (Command Series). It will work up to 3 collars with one transmitter. It comes with one collar. There are 5 power levels selectable for each collar and on each of the five levels there are three more levels - Low, Med, and High. There is also a dedicated "you really ****** me off now" button that you have to hold a couple of seconds before it zaps with full shock. I don't have the guts to try that one on myself!

Have any of you guys watched "The Dog Whisperer" on National Geographic Channel? That guy is amazing. I've used a bunch of his techniques and they work like magic. I just dog sat a psychotic Weimeriner and a normal Golden Retriever for 10 days while my friends were on a cruise. 3 dogs in my house nearly drove me nuts until I started applying what Cesar Millan does. Worked like a charm and restored order to the house (for the most part)

We asked our trainer, and were told to buy an Innotek 5100 ultrasmart. It is a fence and remote collar. It controls our alfa lab unbelievably.

This dog was uncontrolable with out it.

She got loose once with it on, crossed the wire and was shocked. Then ran back to my wife and sat at her left side. !!!!

Get it on E-bay.

I guess to clarify a little, I'm looking for a training collar w/ 1/2 mile range since he can travel so much ground in so little time before i notice, not necessarily a electric fence type. Although that would be nice too. I've decided to just buy one system and would rather have the training collar since he's generally with me most of the time even though he's getting a bit big to sit in construction and ranch equipment that i normally operate. He has however been tied to a pine tree a lot since he chewed up my EDGE monitor cable. Good thing i paid for the dog or else i wouldn't have needed to post this thread. EDGE was really cool and gave me a new monitor w/ cable. It had to be returned for the second time due to program repair anyways so maybe they were feeling sorry for me. I would love to have a second lab, one that's nearly white, but not sure if i can afford everything they chew up when left alone.

Ol'TrailDog - the montana posts are kinda slow on the chapter forum, but yes i purchased my 05 from Yellowstone County Dodge, wouldn't have mattered where to me, i am fortunate to get EP pricing year round.
