Well, I broke a couple of teeth off the ring gear in the rear end on Friday. Nope, no cool burn out pictures or anything like that.

What I am wondering is while I have it all tore apart is it worth it to change it out to a locker. I need pros and cons of a locker. How much of a price difference between changing out to a locker or just replacing the ring gear.

Any suggestions would be great. TIA. Travis

It all depends on your driving. If you spend a majority of the time on dry pavement, then no, a locker or limited slip isn't worth the expense. The sheer volume of torque will wear rubber off of tires & eat clutch packs very quickly. If you spend a lot of time on dirt, then a locker or limited slip might be worthwhile depending on whether or not you need the added traction. If you four wheel, then by all means do a locker.

Havin' drivin' w/ limited slips & lockers for years they have their pros & cons. On an icy road a locker or limited slip can be as much a liability as a benefit. More than once in extremely icy conditions I've had one side bite suddenly & put me in the ditch (fortunately at a pretty slow speed every time). They are extremely nice if you are tryin' to get started on a grade & traction is minimal. Off road they can make the difference between an easier climb up a hill or not makin' it at all.

Frankly, if I were goin' to do one I'd tend to go w/ a locker you can turn on & off, such as an ARB (air operated) or an Ox Locker (cable operated). I just wish someone would come up w/ an aftermarket locker/limited slip than can be completely open (off), a limited slip (position 1 on) or completely locked (position 2 on).
