I am getting ready to install an Amsoil ByPass filter and was looking around to get familiar with where what i will need is at, and i noticed that there is sulfer residue on top of the Full flow oil filter. I just washed the motor a week or so ago and would think this might have washed off, but may not have. so i dont know if this is fresh or if it has been there. anywho, i was wondering if this could be caused from fittings on the turbo setup needing to be tightened. any suggestions? seems strange to have this issue here cause it is the intake side of the turbo, where i wouldnt think that there would be sulfer, but again, i am new to all this so i thought i would consult before i move forward and just start tightening 'stuff'. Thanks guys.

ok... . so then what is the EX manifold? exhaust manifold? is it common for this to come loose factory? I have never touched it. How do i get rid of it, just tighten the bolts? or will i need a new gasket?

ok, checked all the exhaust manifold bolts and they all seemed to be tight. they didnt really want to move at all..... any other ideas?

Sulfer residue on top of oil filter

Check the oil cooler mounting bolts as the residue may be coolant as it turns whiteish yellow when dry. I just had one of my bolts back off a little bit and the seal leaked. I had the dealer retorque the bolts as I didn't have my tools with me, the leak went away and now all is well.

But the powder (soot as previously corrected) is not whitish yellow in color. Its jet black. and its not even covering the enter filter mount. its only on the outside (further from the motor) of the mount and that area of the filter itself. but like i stated earlier its not greasy or oily at all which in my mind rules out the possibility of it being oil. i revert back to soot, but the mystery, how is it getting there???
