Hi gang,

At the local auto parts store, I noticed they sold some Diesel Sulfur Substitute. This one was made by Gunk. Does anyone here suggest using any kind of sulfur substitute in their 12-valves? I'm already using a mixture of Diesel Kleen and MMO.

Check the additives you are currently using to see if they are adding lubricity. That is basically what sulfur does. Since the VE is lubricated by the fuel that passes through it that is what you are looking for. I've used Stanadyne Performance Formula with no problems. I would guess that 1 of those additives you now use add the lubricity you need.

Sulfur Substitute?

Well Pilgrim (in my best John Wayne imitation), lubrication is what ya want, not byproducts of combustion. There was a lubricity study posted hereabouts, not so long ago, that mentioned Biodiesel as the top lubricant, with Walmart(Supertech, Blue Jug) two stroke oil being a close runnerup as a lubricant. I have been runnin a 1st Gen since 1991 and am presently using the blue jug, two stroke oil as a lubricating additive. It works great! I'll try to locate the link to the study, for ya! I really dont think you want to add sulfur back into the fuel ( as I understand your thought process, here). I cant do the stoiciometry (chemical breakdown), but, I would think that you will have more issues with corrosion from the enimical byproducts of combustion than if you just use a lubricity additive. Greg, thanks for posting a link to that study. I have it someplace in my files. Since I've read that I have switched to 2 cycle oil as well.

I have always shied away fron Gunk products... . I guess I just don't care for the name.
