I am a member of SquareBodies on Facebook. I assume you have some idea as to the value (other than sentimental of course) of that completely unmolested truck.....

Three on the tree......there were quite a few of those around here back in the day...

Honestly Mike, I wouldn't have the slightest guess as to the value. I'm assuming that it isn't something that you find everyday, so that is why I really am going to make the effort to keep things as close to where it is right now and be able to drive it down the road safely.

I've really been giving it a hard look over today and it truly doesn't need much. The rear differential is wet around the cover gasket but other than that, it is bone dry.

Here is a fun little chart for you...

Wow...I would have never guessed that they would be in that range. Not bragging, but I don't think that those are in anywhere near the condition of mine.

Just a little progress today getting it up on stands and waiting on the new tires to come on Monday. Then next week , I'm going to run it around a few miles just to feel out what it needs before I get it up on the lift.

So here it is wearing the $65 each Nexen 235/75/15's. Slightly larger than the originals, but I like the look.

Ok, first little problem. Not unexpected. I have a white smoke/haze while running. It has a burnt oil smell. Stuck ring maybe? Runs and idles smooth. Just blowing the haze.

What do you guys think?

I also have a short video but I'm not sure how to upload it to the forum.

It needs a good run to Carlisle- After a good oil change. And I found out that Lucas oil makes a hot rod oil in different weights for engines like that.

Have you done a compression check? It could be valve stem seals too. Either way I'd just run it for a while and enjoy. If it doesn't clear up then investigate a little further.

No, I haven't done a compression test on it yet. But, it would be easy to do next week.

Do you guys think it would be worth running a heavy dose of some type of oil treatment through it or just change the oil and put a few miles on it to see what happens?

Probably the valve stem seals.

If you decide to repair do the double valve stem seal repair where you would use both the Ford umbrella style seals and the square cut GM seals.

Put air pressure to each cylinder with a spark plug adapter and do them in place.

Just as an update. I've been running the old truck about 1/2 hour a day. Still smoking but less than even a couple days ago. It's going to rain here the rest of the week so I'll have some time to be in the garage. Going to pull the plugs and do a compression test......but first, I have to fix a leaking sink in the camper. Sound familiar Mike?
