My 2500 squats a little bit when I'm pulling my fiver. It's not horrible but I'm thinking about putting something in the back to help out. I noticed that the bottom spring on the leaves is in the same shape as the others while towing and straight when not. I thought about air bags and one place suggested the sumo springs. They're newer on the market I think. Does anyone have any experience with them and do you think helper springs are sufficient to do the job rather than an compressor and air bags? I only tow around three to four times a year.

Thanks

Lots of folks have air bags and onboard compressors but I've talked with a few who complained about the air leaks and need to replace lines and other components.

I never wanted air bags for that reason. An good old-fashioned spring shop can install an extra leaf in your rear springs. That might solve your problem and require no maintenance.

Do your rear tires have adequate carrying capacity for the load?

The tires are e rated and each has a 3100 pound rating at 60 lbs of pressure. The rear axle rating is 6010. The pin weight is 3100.

Here is a good alternative to airbags if you don't want to mess with air lines leaking or a harsh ride when empty. This is a 4 spring overload set that only comes into play when there is a sinking load on the truck. Empty you maintain a stock ride due to the unloading of the spring from the frame stopper. The photo shows the loaded ride height with over 5,000 lbs in the bed; a Lance 1160. A load to for sure. Any spring shop can make this for you at a lower price than the airbags. This overload spring set is rated for 3,500 lbs.
