Just got one of ther prototyped 4l80e tranies with there billet T/C. Mounted this in front of a 400 hp ISB with about 980lb/ft in one of the Hummers, We where asked to "break it". Up to this point it has endured everything includind the obstacle course towing at Fort-Hood under unleashed power... that is where we have been breaking them! we shall see over the next few weeks they seem to have a real bullet proof unit especially with the deeper oil pan, valve bodies and other internal upgrades and T/C. Give those guys a shot. www.suncoast.com

hadi , not trying to rain on your parade , but 2 things make me giggle , first is prototype , as i have seen production units are never as good as the prototype , and second is "bulletproof" , sorry , but nothing is bullet proof , wanna prove its bulletproof , put it behind an engine the likes of HVAC or J Donnelly , putting 600 plus HP to the ground , if it lives behind one of those engines for 50k plus miles , then i'll buy one .

edit ... i changed that 500k to a more realistic 50k ... #ad

We are still trying to find a transmission to hold up against 350hp-400hp for daily driving. I would be happy to see 100K miles on one of these trannies. I think in your case you are looking for a transmission for very specialised engines, ones that puts 500-600hp are a little on the extreme and would need an extreme type tanny in my opinion(Like funny cars for ex. ) We will keep trying to break this thing before we turn the propane on it. I will keep you posted on this.

Talk to Bill Kondolay at DTT... his transmission setup will hold 350 to 400hp for daily driving. I have driving his truck with the dd1 injectors and the HOT PE on the top setting and his setup has no issues.

NO THANKS!

Been just over a year since I installed my Dunrite converter and it has held up under almost daily towing and carrying heavy loads. No signs of any slippage and I have taken off heavy from a standing start towing quite often. I'm sure this TC is NOT AS GOOD as a DTT, but it sure is holding up. I'm sure I have at least 350 hp, although it hasn't been dyno'd.

Are they thinking about marketing the 4L80E for the Ram, or is this going to be a beefed up version for the Chevys?

Daniel

I agree with Koa... I have the suncaost, yes its not the DTT, I am very happy with its performance. I too have 350 or more hp... . JB

If the 4L80-E transmission is so great why did GM switch to the Allison transmission for the 2500 and 3500 PU trucks?
I've never heard of a Cummins engine in a hummer. As far as I know the Hummer is a GM product. Dodge is coming out with the new transmission, from what I gather and it is not going to be a puny 4L80-E.

I am not sure why always the negativity amongst a few , I thought we where all working towards a common goal... out of the 3 trannies on the market, the 47RE,4EOD and 4l80e I think the GM transmission is the most dependable certainly after a build up. Allison is a good transmission, rated at 550 ft/lb as a stocker, not too impressive at this time. Repeatadly we see 4l80e standing in front of 700-800 ft/lb. Also keep in mind that you will not find an Allison in the aftermarket for a few years to come.

hadi it comes from many years of having to deal with the crap parts on our rams purchased from companies that are subsidiaries of general motors corp , the crap brakes , delco ... the wandering steering boxes and clunking columns , saginaw , i'm sure this is more , the biggest problem with the RAM is crap GM parts .

my cummins is making close to if not more than 1000 ft/lbs with my puny 47RE #ad
