Project:Cobra'33 plugging along.....

Well Here's My Other Passion

Folks,

My company work truck is an F-250 Super Duty with all manual door locks and windows. Does anyone know how to disable the alarm that pings when the door is opened and how to get rid of the dinger that goes off constantly when the door is opened with the key off? I want to be able to leave the radio on with the engine off while I'm working outside near the truck. To get around this now, I use a screwdriver and snap the door latch to the closed position, but then have to remember to un-snap the latch when closing the door.

I work out in the woods all day on gas wells. Sometimes the truck is never shut off all day, but other times I want to be able to shut it off and still listen to the radio.

Thanks,

Blake

Yeah, pull the wire out of the column harness, or cut it. I found the one on the '05 F550 with a test light. Take the key out, and probe the wires in the plug. When you get it, the alarm will sound. It's a simple ground at the switch deal. I'll try to look tomorrow for the wire color.

I did it on my truck, I had to clip one wire in the door, behind the door panel, they put the contact for the door right built into the latch. The ping is gone now which was really annoying, but the dome light and accesory lights dont come on when the driver door is open either. It is being fooled to think it is always closed, I got used to it, but you have to manually turn on the dome light at night when you need it, and don't forget to turn it off.

In the book... ... .....

What year is it. You could go on Myford.com and get the owner's manual. There are so many options to do this via the key with the door open/closed light switch on, get out of truck turn around three times and then close and open the door, etc. that it isn't funny. It is almost as bad as the Dodge is.

I ended up cutting the alarm wire on my ignition switch only because I had to change the shift lever, and had a small issue getting it back together. It's not that difficult to do with it together. Black wire.

Thanks guys. The truck is an 06. I could probably live without the light coming on when the door is opened since the truck is hardly ever driven at night. If there is a programming option where I didn't have to cut wires, I'd rather take that route.

On the earlier SDs, like the 99s (im pretty sure it works up through 07 at least) you can pull the ignition lock cylinder out, and put a piece of electrical tape over the metal contact strip on the cylinder. This will prevent the chime from ever going off. I did this to my truck a few years ago, and forgot that I even did it until I read this post. Let me dig up a link for you on how to get the lock cylinder out... .

On edit, I cant find the link but do remember how to get the lock cylinder out. Put the key in and turn the switch to on, but dont start it, just leave it in the on postion. Look on the bottom side of the column around the switch area for a hole about . 5 to . 75" up into the column. With the switch in the on postion, push a small punch, or screwdriver into this hole. The lock should be released now and pull right out. You will then see the contact area, cover it with tape, put it all back together and enjoy your radio, with no door chime. Its been so long since I did this, I cant remember if the plastic around the column has to come off or not, but you should be able to figure that out pretty quickly. Let me know if you need anymore help.
