I installed the cooler (Mopar P/N 82400994 or 82400846 - installation instructions are the same) some time back.

I can't tell if it's Working As Designed or not, since I don't have two pieces of data.

I hope someone can help me with these two questions:

1. At what trans oil temp does the bypass valve send trans oil through the cooler?

2. At what trans oil temp does the temp sensor turn on the fan?

I'm considering installing a manual switch to turn on the fan, but that won't do any good if the bypass is still bypassing.

DBF,

My cooling fan comes on at 180 degf. going to the cooler.

The bypass "T or H valve" is just a viscosity thing, if the fluid in the cooler is really cold the fluid takes the path of least resitance wich happens to be thru the T, as the fluid warms up it's easier to push thru the cooler ... ... ... ... . Rick

DBF,

For what its worth, - my cooler fan doesn't come on unless I'm pulling the trailer and going up a grade. I can hear the fan when it kicks on. (I'm assuming this is the style cooler you are talking about)

The switch is a good idea, would be nice to hit the fan switch at the bottom of a long grade and keep the temp down low in the transmission fluid.

paccool,

That's exactly what I had in mind - throw the switch to get a little ahead of the curve.

Rick,

Thanks for your help in understanding that bypass do-dad.

How did you measure the temp going into the cooler? Do you have a sensor there?
