I have had the best luck with this nut from all states gear for keeping the fifth gear in place that and a lot of loctite bearing and sleeve retainer

Way back in ’08 or so when I had the 5th gear nut fall off on my signature truck I figured, after looking at the parts, that the root of the problem was the slight amount of play in the splines between the 5th driven gear and the output shaft. Get rid of that backlash and the nut will never give a problem was my approach.

thats where the loctite comes in and also a good nut the loctite takes up some of the play if it’s not to much and the nut holds it in place
