Anyone had a TAG Come Apart?

How many chances do you give your vendor....

I recently installed a sps 66 and at first it didn't bark or surge at all, now it seems to bark every time it shift from 3rd to od. At least I think it is a bark. Truck almost sounds like its farting, phsst, phsst, phsst if that makes any sense. The bark is get worse as the tst gets turned up.

According to the spa guage I can hit 1350 momentarily with the tst box on 4,4

1450 with tst on 6,6. This would be when punching it from a 30mph roll. Egt are about 50 deg less if starting from a dead stop.

And mine is definately laggier than stock. Im sorta wishing I had sprung for twins. :(

Any ideas, it seems like everthing I read before I got this turbo made the 66 out be pretty free of such annoyances.

Mine does the same thing, I have been harassing my performance guru about the transmission being to tight and working too good. Mine will bark anytime it shifts to OD at 2000rpms or 15psi boost or more . Does not matter what settings my boxes are on. I cannot make mine heat up. My SPS66 lites about 15psi with aggressive throttle and from that point on the EGTs go down and not up. I am happy with the turbo and the way all of my mods perform. There is some lag, but to me does not seem too much worse than stock. I just cringe every time I here the barking. Michael talked with Industrial Injections and they said a big single is going to bark some and it wont hurt it. I hope that's true, because I can definitely bark this one on demand.

Just for hoots tonight I drove (tore) around with the tst on 3/5 and 3/6 instead of 4/4 or 5/5 much less bark, I was quite pleased. It is a start, and sorry J. V. but I am glad someone else sees the bark also. I too have been told it wont hurt anything so I'm only going to worry about it a little bit.

I could use some pressure and a FASS not to mention any intake besides my honeycombed stock box (the holes in the bottom of the box did take about 75 degrees F. of my egt).

mine barks easy, but any turbo will bark, just this one wont break. if your egts are high then what boost psi are you hitting, also maybe there is a small boost leak somewhere. my egts go down the more fuel i give it, well to a point. on a flat my egts level out at 1250, thats at about 100mph and 50 psi

RMalone,

Not to be sorry, I am also glad that someone else is experiencing the same thing. I thought I was the only one. I will try to ease into OD and backoff accelerator a little slower to eliminate barks on daily driving. I will try to ignore the barking when it happens and so far does not seem to have caused any problems other than my frayed nerves.

Actually I am switching to a "tighter" converter. I need to build more launch boost before the torque management kicks in. Need higher boost launches for better 60' time. Tighter converter will help both ways, allow more boost at lower rpm and more power to the ground in 1st before lockup. I will just live with the barking until something breaks I guess.

I really do see less bark with the tst on 5/3 or 6/4 -vs-4/4 or 5/5 any idea why?

I would rather build my turbo/turbos to fit my transmission as opposed to the reverse.

One more silly question if I may. Could you build a set of quick-spool twins with the sps66 as the bottom turbo?

I seem to bark mine worse on the lower settings of Juice/EZ. I just loaded the BD Crazy Larry today, removed the EZ and have tested the HOT Juice on Level 1, 2 and 3. When really down on it testing I did not really bark it unless I just ran it and drop off the accelerator. I dont know if the sps66 would be better on top with smaller housing or on bottom. Dont have any experience with twins on a diesel, yet.

Mine barks real bad if you "roll" into the throttle at 30-50mph. I have the DTT smart box and have it set to lock out o. d. until 48mph. I'm going to adjust o. d. shift a little but I don't think it will make a difference because hard throttle shifts to o. d. are at much higher mph than anything the smart box could be set to acheive.

If I get on it hard from a dead stop/slow roll the bark is much less.

I'm curious, I still have the stock air-box, holes drilled in it etc. How much is that hurting me egt wise? I plan to upgrade, but to what? AFE. , Scotty, ?

I personally can't imagine running that turbo with a stock box.

I'm now wanting to go to an 89 vise the 91 as the farther i go the more bottom end i loose :{ Why can't I have everything :-laf

I also think you are hurting for air intake. The first mods I did after guages was exhaust and AFE Stage I and torque tube, now I switched to the AFE Stage II with bigger filter and intake size. My EGTs have never been a problem. Today with the Crazy Larry and Hot Juice on Level 3 is the first time I have seen over 1300* EGTs. I Saw about 1450-1500* on a WOT.

Brett??? Brady??? Someone at Industrial should chime in here soon with some answers. I am looking into getting one of these and I will be watching this thread closely.

Deisel Nut,

It is not the SPS 66 turbo that is the problem at all. My stock turbo did the same thing after I had the TC/Tranmission upgraded. Ran a month or so before the turbo upgrade. The shift from Lockup in 3rd to OD with tighter TC/Trans has to unlock and shift to OD and Lockups immediately. This is a 600-700rpm hard drop and is what mainly causes the barking. I just hope the II SPS66 is as strong as they say.
