Pulled the fiver to Branson Missouri this past weekend with the SuperChip in "Tow Safe" mode and only one time could I get the EGT's even close to 1300 degrees and it was a very long slow grade. Temps generally stayed below 1200 degrees on most hills and around 900 degrees when cruising on flat ground. That is with a bhaf with stock exhaust minus the muffler.

I was worried about the Temps after reading the archives about the SuperChip. I'm happy with the results.

Could I try pulling in the "Tow Performance" mode if I kept an eye on the EGT's? Are the temps the only thing I need to be concerned with as far as the engine?

Thanks.

You can tow in any mode you want. The most important thing is to keep an eye on EGT's. Stay under 1300F for extended periods of time and you will be fine. 1350F for 15 seconds is ok too but no longer.

The only other thing about heavy towing is advanced timing. I don't know if Superchips can play with timing, maybe someone else knows about this.

i just towed about 16k with it in hi performance mode. i think the performance tow mode is the lowest setting. i dont remember my egt's going over 1000. other than egts, the only other thing i would be worried about is the transmission.

Thanks John and Mark,

I forgot once and left my setting on hi performance, as soon as I pulled out of the driveway the truck defueled so I had to lower the setting. I really need to get a boost fooler soon.

Thank you!

I've never seen my truck go over 1150*, though I don't pull anything too heavy... just the Jeep and trailer, about 7k.

I don't really notice much of a difference between tow safe and high performance to be honest. In both EGTs and overall power.

Nate I notice a big difference between tow safe and Hi Performance on the truck empty.

I would agree that EGT's would not be a problem pulling a light trailer. My trailer is right at 18K.

Thanks!

Brian

On mine I can get above 1300 when in safe tow program but then my rig and 5'er weighs 21,000 lbs. I have tried towing in the other 2 programs and it can be done but EGT will get to 1300 a lot easier and is more trouble to keep below by down shifting, backing off, etc. My truck is stock also pretty much no mod's except the super chips. my fuel milage is improved both when towing and not.
