Superchips Max Microtuner 3705

Has anyone else found their Superchips 3705 (or some other model) tuner non-functional due to "needing a software update", when no software update is available? I like this tuner and have had it for years on this same truck. It will still diagnose DTCs, but nothing else - no tuning changes. Is it just a piece of junk now? Is there anyway to hack it to get it working again? Do you have any recommendations for a similar (better) tuner - specifically one that doesn't require piercing the injector pump wiring?

I'm disappointed that Superchips doesn't offer a software update - apparently they're satisfied with creating a device that turns into a trot line sinker after a period of time.
