Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Superchips stacked with edge juice issues

I picked up a Superchips programmer for my truck today (buddy needed some extra cash quick) and promptly decided to 'stack' it with my edge. I programmed it at the highest setting, adjusted for tire height changes, and then decided I would go out and try to make my baby fly.

Under WOT the truck would surge and then back off repeatedly. Is this a fuel delivery problem, an air to fuel mix problem, or just a terrible stack job. I am running stock injectors, new VP44 and lift pump courtesy of my warranty (9k miles old), and the stock turbo. I am at 7000 plus feet, is this the issue, or do I need to back off my wife's horse budget and buy a big fuel kit?

With the edge on 2-5 and the progammer on 2, I don't encounter this problem... but any higher and it is there. What do I need to do to fix this issue?

Probably too much timing..... the superchips stuff just alters the timing curves, etc. Just the same as an ez. With that on top of the fueling and timing from the juice, it does not make for a happy truck. Hate to say it but you might not be able to use it. That is why the smarty is nice or using a tst box with the gauges.

To add to this problem, you probably are tapped out on the fuel as well. I would get a pusher pump and some new lines or invest in an after market kit like FASS or AirDog. Also, 130 Hp is about the max you can push the stock drive train with no upgrades... . transmission, clutches etc. Just food for thought.

duh... . shoulda checked that first... . guess thats why I installed the gauge to begin with. when it drops off, it drops to 4psi.....

Does that mean it will not work at all, or just not without some mods to the fueling system? If that's the case, then I should be able to get some cash for the programmer on ebay and then use the money towards a smarty. Maybe thats why you see so many used superchips and hypertech programmers on ebay... but no smartys.



If I learned one thing from reading posts here, I upgraded my transmission before the stock one was unable to qualify for any core credit!

If you want the definite answer, I would call superchips and ask them. What exactly does you box do, can you stack it, etc. A smarty is one mean s. o. b. and it is night and day over a superchip. Regardless of what you decide, the transmission and fuel supply issues are a must for upgrading. You can search through some of the older threads to see what others have said. Make sure you adjust the search date to all threads or something like that otherwise you wont get too many results. Hope that helps
