I have had this additional cooler installed under the truck bed on the driver's side. The documentation that came with it shows clearly the bypass valve and the temperature switch.

But nothing states what opens/closes the bypass valve.

Also, nothing indicates the temperature at which the fan should come on (it seems to be rather high, and I'm thinking of putting in a manual control in addition).

Anybody have this info?

Part numbers on the installation document are 82400846 & 82400994.

DBF,

My cooler fan comes on at 180 degf. As for the bypass valve on my 93 it's not really a valve, it's just a "T", what's supose to happen is when the trans fluid is cold and harder to push thru the cooler it takes the least path of resistance and goes thru the "T" , My fan hardly ever runs, only after long pulls in the summer or long up hill pulls when the radiator coolant climbs to over 190-200 and thats rare.

Thanks for the "valve" info. Makes sense.

180 degrees measured where, Rick? At the trans output, which is also where it goes to the under-the-bed cooler?

If I've got the flow right, fluid goes from the front output of the trans to the under-the-bed cooler (fan runs depending on temp), then to the cooler in front of the upper part of the radiator on the driver side, then back to the heat exchanger with engine coolant on the passenger side of the engine. Then back to the aft (inlet) port of the transmission.

My trans temp sensor is in the pan. I see higher temps there than I want (hot day, towing (o/d locked out)). Sometimes I hear the fan running, sometimes I don't. Guess I'll have to figure out how to mount more sensors to tell where the heat's being transferred (or not).

Thanks. DBF

DBF,

My trans temp sensor is in the side of my pan near the bottom,

The cooler it self is piped into the supply line going into the trans from the front coolers,

The fluid leaves the front coolers then goes into the under bed cooler then into the trans, i can't remember if the sensor on the uder bed cooler ( the one that brings the fan on) is on the leaving or the entering side of the cooler .

Rick
