I am about to install some supplemental LED backup/work lights. I need to find the 12V backup light wire and/or connector under the dash if possible.

I have a three position switch that I will mount on the dash. I want auto reverse on, off, and work lights on (with pilot indicator). This means I need a couple of relays to get the arrangement I want. One of the relays low voltage signal will be via a feed from the back up lights when they are on in reverse. So I need to figure out where and how to tap into that. Getting it under the dash or somewhere up front would be good if that is possible.

I cannot get the wiring diagrams for the 2016 truck via Tech Authority yet. I'm guessing they are the same as the ’15 but not certain. Anyone have a wiring diagram of the reverse lights for a ’15 that they’d be willing to share?

This is the wiring for premium models.

Once again, Sag2 to the rescue. Thanks - got a print of it on color paper (14 pages) and am going to piece it together.

Much appreciated.

Sag2, I assembled the wiring diagram on the kitchen counter - thanks again.

As you know the Body Control Module (BCM) controls the lighting. For backup lighting there is a signal from the transmission to the BCM that tells it when it's in reverse. The BCM then lights up the backup lights. There are multi-pin connectors from the BCM driving each of the rear lighting assemblies. The "Exterior Lighting System" wiring diagram you posted has the wire colors and pin numbers.

So can you tell me where the BCM is located in a 2016 Laramie? It appears that connectors C5/E and C6/F are on the BCM and these are the connectors feeding the rear light assemblies. Therefore my question of where it located. I may be able to pick up a signal there to drive my relay for my auxillary backup/work lights.

I would avoid the trucks system were it me. I would use the outbound reverse light feed from the trailer package harness for my trigger.

Just a thought.

Thanks, that too sounds like a good possibility.

My idea was to tap into the backup light wire driver (left or right), same as going to the back of the truck and tapping the backup light wire at the assembly or somewhere where you could locate it. I don't have a connector map so I am guessing here. In other words, stay downstream of the BCM.

The BCM controls the trailer package as well but there appears to be a separate relay in the "Assembly Power Distribution Center" that isolates and powers it up. There must be a harness up front where one could get to the reverse light in that feed. Do you have any idea where one could find that? I will go take a look at the fuse panel to see if I can identify it.

I added extra backup lights by tapping into the backup light wire in the trailer plug to fire a relay. I used the 12V source in the trailer plug to supply the extra lights.

Appreciate the experience.

Where did you install the relay? Did you wire yours up to use a worklight as well? I will need two relays - one for auto reverse mode and one for worklight mode.
