I recently bought a used 06 and while doing a deep clean, I noticed surface rust inside the truck (under the seats, under the dash, etc. . ) I know that the previous owner had the floor mats shampood a few times while he was selling the truck... . and the first time I saw it, the mats were still damp and it was raining outside -so the windows were rolled up tight. My theory is that the dampness inside the truck basically started the rust on the unfinished metal parts inside.

Anyone else experience this?

Any remedies other than dismantling the interior and removing/sanding/paining all the unfinished metal pieces? Should I take a rag with wd40 and go over all the parts that I can - (which would stink up the inside of the truck)

It's normal. I purchased my truck new, and it's never been shampooed. It's only light surface rust, and won't effect the structural integrity at all.

It would be a major job to dismantle the dash and interior to paint everything. Additionally, many components underneath the truck are the same way, such as driveshafts, etc.

If you have cab lights you might want to ck them. The early 3rd gen style did not seal very well. They have a new style with a better gasket now.
