Put a new FCA in and my surge at idle is gone(doing for over a year), truck sounds smoother and my rail pressure gauge is rock solid now no more hopping aroundOo. . Thanks Bob;).

Sorry but what is the FCA

fuel control actuator [or something along those lines]

it is the module that controls the fuel flow into the cp3 for it to do its thing and build pressure. it bolts to the back/side of the cp3

Mine was doing the same thing and I replaced the FCA with a stock one and it stopped it as well.
Just for giggles, I pulled the old FCA apart (was thinking of maybe trying the Relentless Diesel mod to it: Relentless Diesel.com :: View topic - CP3 Modifications you can do yourself!
but the metering valve was stuck so hard into the body that there was no way it was coming out of there without serious damage to it and/or the body so I gave up and trashed it. The stock one works fine for me as well as I have no mods on my truck other than the FASS fuel system.
