Hi guys,

At 46K flawless miles, on the highway in Eastern Washington today with Cruise Control on, my engine surged and lost power. The Cruise either disconnected and/or the engine died (not sure because I noticed no-accelerator pedal response and shut the ignition off and coasted to the side of the road). Restarted truck and the engine surged and stumbled. High RPM on surge about 2100, low on stumble just about down to the bottom of the scale. The check engine light came on and after about 60 seconds idle smoothed out. Truck ran fine on the highway, but repeated the surge/stumble each time I started it after shut-down.

Checked codes and came up with the following in order:

PCU

P0122

P1693

ECU

P0230

P1693

P0341

P1690

Check Engine light illuminated from original fault, on.

I see a couple relate to accel. pedal position sensor and camshaft position sensor.

Ideas anyone? Please tell me this is likely to be a warranty item.

Thanks,

Jon

Follow-up

After searching previous posts based on some of my fault codes, I'm suspicious of the camshaft position sensor but my tach. is operating normally. I haven't been able to run across the same combination of codes in previous posts. I do have a fuel pressure gauge that doesn't work and haven't gotten if replaced yet so I cannot report on lift pump pressure, but can report that bumping the starter produces a strong sounding lift-pump run for 30 seconds.

Another pertinent fact (but coincidental I believe) I fueled up about 25 miles prior to this event. The fuel was from a Cenex dealer in Dusty Washington during wheat harvest season..... I suspect it was fresh Number 2 with all the fuel they pump this time of year.

P0122 (M) Accelerator Position Sensor (APPS)

Signal Voltage Too Low

APPS voltage input below the minimum acceptable

voltage.

P1693 (M) DTC Detected in Companion Module A fault has been generated in the companion engine

control module.

<hr>

P0230 Transfer Pump (Lift Pump) Circuit

Out of Range

Problem detected in fuel transfer pump circuits.

P1693 (M) DTC Detected in Companion Module A fault has been generated in the companion engine

control module.

P0341 (M) Camshaft Position (CMP) Sensor

Signal

Problem with voltage signal from CMP

P1690 (M) Fuel Injection Pump CKP Sensor

Does Not Agree With ECM CKP

Sensor

Problem in fuel sync signal. Possible injection pump

timing problem. Low power, engine derated, or engine

stops.

OK Engine went in limp mode From Cam sensor voltage flux. Transfer pump is a coinkydink as the LP really never give too much signal to the driver.

Thanks Tim,

The idle surge/stumble cleared up last night and the check engine light went out without me doing anything but worrying. The codes were still set however. I'm beginning to suspect a connector pin in one of the harnesses. I'm going to clean the PCM and ECM harnesses today and put some dielectric grease on the pins and put 'em back together.

Now, if you were a betting man, would you bet on this approach solving the problem or do you thing the voltage flux from the Cam sensor is indicative of that component beginning to fail?

Thanks again for the help,

Jon

PS - Well I set out to pull the ECM harness connector and am confronted with a VOID sticker that would appear to be broken if I pull the harness plug. Since I am not my own warranty station, I guess I'll visit the dealer on this one.

That void sticker is for the VP44 Injection pump harness. As for the ECM cleaning the connections If it was never apart it should not need anything. Your cam sensor is on its way out I suspect. Mine died all of a sudden and it is a fun job to do as the human wrist only can bend so far. Here check it out. Its # 22 in the diagram.

# 20 is the ECM connection which is easier to be accessed under the truck. .
