Some may recall posts I've made in the recent past about my throttle feeling "twitchy. " I've concluded that the reason it's twitchy is because something in the truck is causing a surging condition.

To best demonstrate the condition, it's best that the truck is loaded (e. g. with my camper on it), and used in 1st gear with OD off (so the 4. 10's are being used). It's even better if you put it in 4-Low to make the gearing even shorter.

Next, try to accelerate... doesn't matter if you stomp on it or if you try to do it gently. You'll feel a surging going on that makes the truck want to gently "buck" or "rock" fore/aft. This complicates matters because if it's more pronounced, your foot tends to move on the throttle pedal and exacerbates the problem.

My suspicions are either the throttle position sensor (TPS) or the pump itself. I also wonder if any of my mods could be either causing, or adding to the problem (DD3's, DD UPM being my only power mods).

Thoughts?

Surging

RobG, my truck does this when my fuel filter begins getting plugged, only when I accelerate hard and most noticable when loaded. My guess is that you have a fuel supply restriction, either the lift pump or filter plugging. bg

What I've heard

I have heard from a number of sources that the crank angle sensor can cause this type of problem.

Another post talked about some of the screws inside of the vp44 were loose , and his surge was gone when pump replaced.

There... a little fuel for the fire

Thanks guys! I'll replace the fuel filter and see if that cures the problem. If not, I'll have to try to figure out how to get the dealer to look at it. I wonder if they'd notice the DD3's if I removed my Comp box completely? :)

I have a surge also But as far as I can find It is that the computer wants to maintain the rpm level. Even in a stock form The surge is there on a shift or fast load. But as we add mods it gets more noticeable. Dd3 alone would make it feelabl for sure. And also a dealer would for sure notice dd3,s alone. Plus with a stock waste gate your egt's would be really scary.
