Okay I have a minor minor surging issue with cruise control on. Like just barely detectable on gauge mainly a seat of the pants feel like it gives it throttle, then releases, then throttle ... during flat ground cruising rather than maintaing a constant throttle position; cycles about 1sec on then 1/2 sec off. IS this an issue with the electronic injection trucks, HO motors, 48RE or do I have a unique issue that I should get checked out.

PS I noticed my MPG were down about 10% but I need a new fuel filter maybe this is all related???

I had surging all the time when I was at 2200rpm or up if at constant throttle. a new filter would help but it was short lived and the problem would come back. pusher pump took care of the problem so the stock lift pump was weak even under stock power levels.

I would change your fuel filter and see if it's better. btw my first filter was black at only 9000mi.

What year truck do you have? I remember reading something in a 4WD magazine last summer about DC recalling some trucks for cruise control related issues. You may want to go to Dodge.com, click "For Owners" and run the last 8 digits of your VIN# to see if any TBSs or recalls have been issued for your vehicle.

I actually still have all three listed in my signature but I was referring to my 03. I am going to see my dealer on Thursday and they are going to hook up a computer to watch what it is doing going down the road.

I have also had that problem with my cruise control. I noticed it when I am on a very slight down hill, when the truck starts to roll just a bit over the set speed, it will increase the throttle just a bit and then release and then increase the throttle again, this will continue until the cruise is shut off or the truck rolls much higher than the set speed or it if drops below the set speed.

Mine also has another issue of not holding the set speed very well. With the cruise set, if I hit a small uphill and the truck loses more than 2 mph, it will increase throttle and take the truck about 5 mph over the set speed and then release the throttle and fall about 4 below the set speed and then it will hit the throttle again and take it about 3 over the set speed and finally release the throttle and settle near the set speed. REALLY annoying!!!

I have not had a chance to talk to my dealer about it to see if they have any type of fix for this problem. I don't believe I have any recalls on my truck. I think all my recalls have been taken care of.

If anyone has any suggestions, please feel free to drop me a message.

I think there's just not enough damping in the cruise control algorithm. Having said that, I am willing to live with a bit of surging for the performance the system gives me otherwise. What I mean by that is, when I hit "resume" boy does it resume! I've seen over 20 lb of boost just from the cruise control accelerating back up to speed. The system wastes no time at all getting up there!

My surging tends to occur during sudden changes in road conditions (large bumps, a series of rolling hills close together, sudden strong wind). If it's so bad that it's annoying you, then certainly have it checked. I believe the cruise recall rmcnamee is referring to involves failure of cruise to de-activate when you hit the brake or turn it off! Look out!

Thanks Bob,

I ran the check and I dont have any recalls on my truck at this time.

rbattelle,

I'm glad I have not had that problem with my cruise control. Like you said  Look Out!! That would not be much fun to find out your cruise will not turn off. I have noticed that it is a little more pronounced when I have a bigger load behind the truck. When the truck is empty, it does not really do the surging, or I have not really noticed it. I have been living with it for a year and a half now, but I might at least mention it to my dealer and see what they tell me.

Thanks for the info guys!

Everyone be safe out there!!:D
