History:

98 12V

Straight piped.

OEM plate full forward.

AFC wheel set for slightly less than 'full fog' :-laf

Wastegate disabled.

EGT gauge

driver=wifey=:D

Empty it runs like a perfect but hook the 5th wheel up and on acceleration we get some surging. Let off the go pedal and push it down s-l-o-w-l-y and no surging :confused:

Is the full forward on the plate causing a governor 'hunt'?

I am not sure if this is the same surging that I found with mine but the cure was strong throttle return springs. Over a period of time the springs start to become weak. Now mix that with a bump in the road with a load in tow... your foot bumps the throttle causing the first surge or buck and then it cascades from there. All that is happening is that the bump started the surge and from then on. . your foot is pressing and releasing the throttle causing the surge or bucking...

I ask the Dodge dealer about it and they found a TSB about a throttle return spring replacement... but it was going to cost me $100. I did about the same thing for about $7. I bought a set of generic springs from my local auto parts and replaced the weak springs with a set of heavier ones from the kit... No more surging or bucking when I am under load...

Mine is bone stock but I still experience some surging under load too. I found that it was mostly driver-induced like Rick said. Once it starts surging you bounce back and forth in the seat and your foot moves back and forth with you.

I found that when it starts to surge if I slide my foot over to the right so that it is touching the hump over the trans. this dampens the oscillation and the surging stops.

From what I have found. . its more in the 12v trucks. The 24v trucks dont seem to respond to the pedal surge as the 12v trucks do. The 12v trucks have throttle return springs where the 24v trucks dont have the same thing. Over a period of time the springs get weak and then the surge or bucking under load developes or the foot bounce.....
